The Char Dham Yatra is one of the most important pilgrimages in India, especially for Hindus. People think that going on this holy journey cleanses the soul and leads to moksha (salvation). The yatra takes place in the beautiful Himalayas of Uttarakhand and visits four holy shrines: Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath.

Places Covered in Char Dham Yatra
- Yamunotri: is the first dham of the yatra and is dedicated to Goddess Yamuna. People who go on pilgrimage to the Yamunotri temple and bathe in the holy waters of the Yamuna, which are thought to cleanse the soul.
- Gangotri: is the source of the holy River Ganga and is dedicated to Goddess Ganga. People think of the temple in Uttarkashi as a sign of purity and spirituality.

Best Time to do Char Dham Yatra

The Char Dham Yatra usually starts in April or May, on the holy day of Akshaya Tritiya, and ends in October or November, around the time of Diwali.
May to June and September to October are the best months.
Avoid July and August because of the heavy monsoon rains, which can cause landslides and block roads.
People who go on pilgrimages often choose to go in the summer when the weather is nice and the paths are easier to get to.
